RECRUIT

Notsuke

At the northeastern tip of Shibetsu Town, the Notsuke Peninsula stretches 26 km into the Sea of Okhotsk—Japan’s largest sandspit—lying between the Shiretoko and Nemuro Peninsulas.

From the offshore waters you can see the Northern Territories, and within the quiet, expansive wetlands, you’ll encounter the presence of diverse wildlife such as red foxes, Ezo deer, and more than 220 species of birds.

In summer, the wildflower gardens bloom with alpine plants and you may spot seals resting along the shore. In winter, the inner bay freezes over entirely, transforming the landscape into a magical white world known as the “ice horizon.”

From the Nature Center at the tip of the peninsula, you can explore a 1.3 km walking trail leading to Todowara, join winter bird-watching tours, or experience the ice-horizon walk—immersing yourself in the nature of Shibetsu through unique activities across all four seasons.
